CURRY — The Dora Bulldogs are riding a 3-game winning streak after handing the Curry Yellow Jackets their first loss of the season.
The Bulldogs' defense was relentless in the contest, as Dora held Curry (4-1, 3-0) to just 167 total yards and forced four turnovers.
Dora (4-1, 2-1) also dominated on the offensive side as well, amassing 485 total yards with 433 coming on the ground.
Dora scored on its first four offensive possessions of the game. Cody Staten scored the first touchdown for Dora as he scampered 70 yards on the third offensive play for the Bulldogs.
Jacob Hicks' PAT put Dora up 7-0 with 8:56 left in the first. The next Dora possession, quarterback Caleb May hit Sean Aaron with a 19-yard touchdown pass and Hicks' PAT put Dora up 14-0 with 5:12 left in the first. The next drive consisted of one play as Deangelo Pendleton took the sweep 48 yards for a 21-0 lead with 4:07 left in the first.
Curry was finally able to get on the board with just under 2 minutes left in the first. Curry faced a long fourth down but wide receiver Michael Oliver made a circus catch on the throw from quarterback Aaron White for a score.
Evan Miller added the PAT to cut the Dora lead to 21-7, but that was as close as the Jackets got. Dora answered right back after a failed onside-kick attempt by Curry.
Staten added his second touchdown of the night when he took it 49 yards to increase the lead to 27-7 as Hicks missed the PAT attempt. The next score came from Staten from 59-yards out for his third touchdown, which was setup after a Kai Thomas interception with 4:24 left in the first half. The PAT was good and Dora then led 34-7.
Staten wasn't done however. As time was winding down in the first half he went in from 5 yards out and the Dogs took a 41-7 lead into the half. The last score of the night came when May took it in for a 3-yard touchdown run and Dora was up 48-7. The Bulldogs were able to get some young guys some experience in the fourth quarter.
Staten ended the night with 215 yards on just 9 carries and had four touchdowns. Demarcus Kirk carried the ball 10 times for a total of 67 yards and May finished with 43 yards and a touchdown.
Aaron was Dora's leading receiver a 19-yard touchdown catch. The Dora defense was led by Cade Stone's 2 interceptions while Thomas and Pendleton each had one interception.
Curry's White was the team's leading rusher with just 16 yards on 10 attempts and was 13-of-40 passing for 153 yards and a touchdown. Oliver was the Jackets leading receiver with 75 yards on 3 catches and a receiving touchdown. Dora head coach Dusty Goode was pleased with how his team and coaches prepared this week.
"It all starts with the assistant coaches and the players and they did a really good job with preparation this week," he said. "Curry is a good football team and we were lucky to get some turnovers." Goode is now ready to get back into region play. "It's now time to focus on region play and get ready for Corner," he added.
"We have to prepare on a short week this time." Dora will play on Thursday next week against Corner at Dora. The game will be televised on My68 as part of the "Thursday Night Lights Game of the Week."
Goode also talked about getting to play some young players. "We tell every player that they're equal and just as important as the other," he said. "It's a total team effort and that's what we got tonight."
Dora will be returning home next week when the Bulldogs host Corner.
