DORA — The Oneonta Redskins ruined Dora High’s senior
night at Horace-Roberts Field on Friday by cruising to a 28-0 victory.
Dora mustered only 141 total yards of offense in the game to fall
to 1-8 on the season and 1-6 in Class 4A, Region 5 play. The Bulldogs
will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2001.
Oneonta cracked the scoreboard first Friday after Nolen Smith
picked off a Kenny Carlton pass and returned it to the Bulldog
40-yard line.
Four plays later, quarterback Casey O’Toole
hit Patrick McQueen from 11 yards out for the score.
Chance Payne’s extra point gave the
Redskins a 7-0 lead.
Dora appeared to have something going late in the first quarter
when Brennan Nash ripped off a 35-yard run to the Oneonta 40-yard
line, but two plays later the Bulldogs fumbled and the Redskins
took over and drove 61 yards for the score, capped off by a Brandon
Evatt 42-yard run.
Oneonta’s final score of the half came when O’Toole
dove in from a 1-yard out to make the halftime score 21-0.
The second half was mostly uneventful for both teams as they took
turns exchanging possessions.
Oneonta did manage one final score as O’Toole,
who finished the night with 139 yards passing, connected for
his second touchdown
pass, again to McQueen from 29 yards for the games final score.
Dora concludes its season next Thursday night as the Bulldogs
travel to Pickens County.
