Dora
Drops One To Walker
The Dawgs suffer their first loss of the season to the Walker Vikings
35-20. It was a game of missed assignments and missed opportunities. A
team can afford to make a few mistakes when playing a weaker foe, but
with a team like Walker that is not a luxury.
The game started out as if it would be another Dora romp. The Dawgs scored
twice in the 1st quarter. Walker got the ball back and a few plays later,
a Walker back raced about 56 yards for a touchdown.
Dora struggled during the next possession and when Walker got the ball
back, I remember the coach calling out to the defensive backs "don't
let them behind you." The next play from scrimmage, it was like the
play unfolded in slow motion. The Walker receiver blew right by the defensive
back and was wide open for a touchdown.
Walker added another score late in the half to go on top 21 to 14.
In Dora's first possession in the second half, they marched down the field
and scored a touch down but missed the extra point and things seemed to
fall apart from there.
Gone were the long scampers by Chapel and Woods, the passing game was
non existent. Walker spent as much time in our backfield as we did.
I'd like to say that we had some bad calls and that's what cost us the
game. There were a few questionable calls, but from my perspective, officiating
was not a factor....we were just off.
So, what's next for Dora. We have come to expect victory and defeat always
leaves a bad taste in our mouths, but it's early in the season and we
cannot afford to hang our heads. Our team has to hitch up their belts
and get their heads screwed on right. The Dawgs are down but they are
definitely not out, there is simply too much talent there to do otherwise.
We as fans, but join together and put our full support behind our team
because they are winners.
