They capitalized on the error to tie the game
in the first quarter. Both teams scored again in the second quarter and
the game stood tied at the half.
The third quarter was scoreless in a defensive battle with the Dogs holding
the Tigers twice on 4 down. Eric Woods ignited the offence with a 38 yard
run over the left side of the line. The offense held on to the ball and
ground out more yardage and Eric Woods exploded in from the one to give
Dora the go-ahead score 21-14.
Ardmore fought hard and they had the muscle with which to fight. The line
averaged over 280 pounds. They managed to march the ball down field and
with less than two minutes to go, they had the ball inside Dora's 15 yard
line. On the next play, an Ardmore halfback fumbled the football inside
the 10 and Dora linebacker Jeff Flack picked up the loose football and
ran it back 90 yards for a Dora touchdown which put the game on ice. The
Tigers took it hard and got three personal fouls, two of which got Tigers
ejected from the game. Dora held on to win 28 to 14.
Coach Johnny Wright was happy with his team's performance. "The defense
play well tonight," he said. "They were able to hold Ardmore
twice on fourth down." He named outstanding performance in several
players but said Jeff Flacks fumble recovery and return for a touchdown
was huge. "It's good to get this first round out of the way,"
he said "We're looking forward to next weeks challenge."
Next week Dora will face The Hamilton Aggies in the second round of the
state playoffs.
