Green Top Cafe - Dora
(7530 Hwy 78, 35062 - 205 648-9838) Legendary Alabama BBQ joint about 20 miles west of Birmingham; also known as Leo & Susie's Famous Green Top BBQ; this 50's style roadhouse opened it's doors in 1951; indoor restrooms weren't added until 1978; the top is still green ... thanks to hard to find green shingles on the roof; celebrity diners here have included Bo Jackson, George Wallace and boxer Marvelous Marvin Hagler; well-cooked BBQ with a vinegar/tomato sauce that has a nice jolt; Leo & Susie’s Famous Baked Bean Recipe 6 slices of bacon ½ medium onion, chopped chopped bell peppers (to taste) ¼ cup BBQ sauce 1 32 oz. can of pork and beans Sauté the bacon, then add the onions, bell peppers, and sauce. Place in a big pot, add the beans and cook real slow until they’re tender.
