The Dora High
School Class of 1963 Celebrate 40th Reunion |
The Dora High School Class
of 1963 celebrated their 40th class reunion last night at Bevill State
Community College. My sister Mary Lois (Watson) Capps was in that
class. She debated for a long time about whether or not to go. Both
my mother and I lobbied hard for her to attend. After a lot of pressure
and threats of bodily harm she went....and you know what? She had
a great time.
At a 5 year class reunion, alumni often want to "do it up right"
and put on the Dawg as it were. After all, one wants to appear successful
to their old classmates. But after ten years, the motivation changes
and the guys want to show up so that everyone can see they do in fact
still have some of their hair left and the women to show that they
have not gained "that much weight."
One of the most interesting things I remember from my 10 year class
reunion was that some of the girls who were wallflowers in high school,
had blossomed into beautiful and successful women.
After 40 years, people want to come to show that they can actually
make an entrance to the reunion without the assistance of a walker
(just kidding Mary Lois). The bottom line is this. Almost everyone
who decides to attend a reunion usually has a very good time. There's
something about seeing folks you have not seen in years. I love reunions.
It always feels like home.
