Allen Bobo's Toto
Behold Toto Bobo! In the spring of 1997,
we were discussing the genetics of calico cats in my Biology class
at Bevill State. One of my students, Michael Johnson of Carbon
Hill, asked about the genetics behind bob-tails. He commented
that his father's cat had just had a litter of bob-tailed kittens.
I showed interest and he asked if I wanted one. I said yes, and
on the day of summer registration, he brought a little gray ball
of fur to me that fit in one hand. Later that day, having no cat
food, I went to offer the little fellow a piece of turkey from
my sandwich... he took it - and my finger. Bit clean through it!
I survived, and on the first day I gave him run of the house while
I was gone, (as opposed to imprisonment in the bathroom) I came
home to find him curled up asleep in a basket. It reminded me
of Dorothy carrying Toto around in "The Wizard of Oz",
and his name was set. He's been my buddy ever since. Glen
