Bob Ammons Writes
about the Dora High School Parents Association
" The DHS Parent Association was formed in 2006 to facilitate an outside
means for Girls Atheltics and other organizations to raise funds for their needs
associatied with their growth within Dora High School and surrounding schools.
The program though an independent 501 (C) 3 Corporation is separate from the
Walker County School System raises monies either through work or independent
fund raising by myself and the other elected officers of the association. Our
goal long term goal is to facilitate the immediate needs of the Girls progarms
and to spread the wealth with other organizations as the needs exists. Sometimes
we work as a "booster club" when we run concessions on Dora High School
campus. When this is done those monies raisied are reported to the administration
and administered to the program at hand, during volleyball season all monies
raised go to volleyball specifically the same with softball and basketball in
turn. This allows those programs to prospore. Other monies raised allow for the
other needs of the school. The Association has purchased and or funded numerous
projects at Dora this includes; Cordless microphone system for the school gymnasium,
a public address system for the Girls softball field, a sprinkler system for
the softball field, a Girls Locker Room complete with lockers, laundry room,
and restroom (constructed by the WCBOE). We've also sponsored Sipsey and TS Boyd
Schools field trips to Birmingham to participate in the Community Awareness Day
program for 5/6 Graders to teach them about weather and other emergency actions.
Our latest endeavor is to have a Field house built at the softball field.
This building will have a pressbox, concession stand, indoor restroom
facilities (ADA compliant), and an equipment room. This will take heavy
donations from the community and beyond. We have partnered with the Regions
Charity Golf Classic Tournament held in Birmingham (Hoover) each year
and this years tournament has a fundraiser called Birdies for Charity.
The BFC works just like pledges in the past for bowling, you'll pledge
so much for how many Birdies, Eagles, and Hole-in-ones are made. Basically
you pledge that they (the pros) hit 802 birdies, etc during the week
of the Golf Tournament and let's say you pledged $ .03 per birdie, you'll
owe $24.06.
Help the girls athletes of today become tomorrows leaders and this is
for everyone in East Walker County, everyone wins, play in the fun. The
deadline is May 15, click on the site listed below to pledge."
