JAMES O. PHILLIPS DORA -- Everybody got into the act for the Dora Bulldogs Friday night. Even the band started scoring touchdowns.Dora scored 28 points in the first quarter and never looked back on its way to a blistering 63-22 win over the New Hope Indians in their Class 3A Region 6 contest.The Bulldogs, who moved to 7-0 win the win, were clicking on all cylinders. On offense, ten different Bulldogs ran the ball for Dora for a total of 403 yards. Defensively, Dora held New Hope to just 141 total yards, most of that came against the second and third-string defense.Josh Creel, drummer/defensive end, scored Dora's second touchdown. Dora's Ian Landis blocked a New Hope punt and Creel picked it up and raced nine-yards for the score to put the Bulldogs up 14-0.Chase Pierce scored two first-quarter touchdowns, on runs of seven and 28 yards, and Steven Harrison added a 32-yard run as the Bulldogs built a four-touchdown lead less than nine minutes into the game.It was exactly the kind of game Dora coach Johnny Wright was looking for."We did what we wanted to do and that was put it away early," Wright said."We tried to focus our kids on being intense no matter who our opponent is. A lot of people got to play tonight -- everybody got to play tonight and that's a lot of fun for the coaches. It was a good overall effort and puts us in good shape for the region championship if we win next week."Dora (7-0, 5-0) faces Madison Academy next week in its next-to-last region contest.New Hope (0-7, 0-5) was helpless against Dora's first-string defense. The Indians fumbled nine times in the first half alone, losing three, and they had a total of 16 yards of offense until Wright put in Dora's second string late in the second quarter.The Bulldogs scored a pair of touchdowns in the second and third quarter.Jason Rouse made the score 35-0 with a four-yard run into the end zone at the 8:51 mark of the second quarter and Harrison added a 16-yard scamper six minutes later as Dora built a 42-0 lead. New Hope finally got on the scoreboard with 22 seconds left in the half when James Watkins broke free for a 50-yard touchdown run.Dora kept its offensive charge going in the second half. Pierce added his third touchdown, a five-yard run, early in the third quarter and eighth-grade quarterback Marquis Chapel added a five-yard touchdown pass to Justin Phillips late in the quarter. Eric Woods scored Dora's final touchdown midway through the fourth quarter when he took the ball in from 51 yards out.For the game, Chapel led Dora's running attack, picking up 138 yards on nine carries. Harrison added 94 yards on just six carries, Pierce had 54 yards on five attempts and Woods picked up 71 yards on four rushes.
