Music Hath Charms
- from the front page
"Music
hath charms to soothe the savage beast" so says the old saying.
Well, I can't speak for the animals or to them like "Dr. Dolittle".
I know that music has a way of speaking to my soul. Music can lift
my spirits, stir memories, or bring me to tears. The Star Spangled
Banner (our national anthem) brings feelings of pride and patriotism.
Lawrence Welk's music is just made for dancing.
Music can tell a story, lead you toward adventure, or help you relax
after a long day. Music can stir many memories. Music reminds me
of friends, and their likes and dislikes. Music reminds me of happy
times and of sad times.
Many have memories of singing around the campfire, at camp, at church,
at school, or at home. It seems to be part of that which makes us
what we are. I can remember staying with my grandparents during
the summer at their farm. In the evenings, after sundown and a quick
bath, we would sit on the front porch, listening to nature's music.
There were no lights on in the house, and none close by. The sounds
of nature, the stillness, and the music of God's creation helped
to relax away the toils of the day so that one slept soundly, only
to be awakened by the sounds of the morning.
I enjoy music, some types more that others. I grew up in a time
when radio and television and records were not as clear sounding
as is the norm today. But we heard some great music and I like to
share the music I have. For the past couple of years I have compiled
music CD's for the members of my graduating class at the DHS Alumni
Reunion. I know some enjoy the music, and haven't had any reaction
from the others. I hope they enjoy the music as much as I do.
Perhaps you have been involved with music, either as a performer
or spectator. As a band member or as a solo performer who enjoyed
entertaining. Dora High School has had its share of good musicians,
and will probably have many in the future.
I prefer older music which is becoming harder to find. Many of the
performers are gone and those who are left are not capable of performing.
I have a large collection of pre-60's music. If you want a song
and can't find it, let me know. I just may have it.
